When do Pokémon ETBs go up in value? Two years of StockX prices, box by box

Data as of 1 October 2026: monthly median StockX sale prices of 7 standard Elite Trainer Boxes released since November 2024, plus 151 for comparison, from October 2024 to September 2026 (months with 5+ sales).

The short answer

Modern Pokémon ETBs have followed the same three-step path on StockX: a launch price, a dip within the first few months while stores restock, then a climb, which in 2026 came for nearly every box at once. Journey Together opened at $79, bottomed at $57 in June 2025 and was at $118 in September 2026. Surging Sparks went from $50 at its low to $125. The climb is not a one-way street: Destined Rivals peaked at $200 in April 2026 and was back to $100 by September 2026.

Line chart of monthly median StockX prices by months since release for six Pokémon Elite Trainer Boxes, showing a dip after launch and a later climb: Journey Together low $57, now $118; Surging Sparks low $50, now $125; Black Bolt low $70, now $175; Destined Rivals low $74, now $100; Phantasmal Flames low $65, now $130; Prismatic Evolutions low $89, now $130

Three things the cycle shows

1. The dip comes early. In most boxes the cheapest month on StockX fell within the first two to five months, probably while retail restocks reached shelves. First-month resale prices were higher than the dip for every box here except Surging Sparks, which first traded at a low price and rose.

2. The big climb was market-wide, not age-driven. All seven boxes rose sharply between January and May 2026, whether they were 4 months old (Phantasmal Flames) or 16 months old (Surging Sparks). Out-of-print 151, which our data catches 13 months after release, did the same: from about $300 in January to a $600 monthly median in April 2026. When every box moves in the same months, the cause is the market (collector demand, attention on the hobby), not each box's own clock. Only the early dip is box-specific.

3. Peaks give back. Destined Rivals more than doubled into spring 2026 and then lost half of it over the summer; 151 (to $420 in September) and Prismatic Evolutions also eased from their spring highs. Past patterns are not a promise: a reprint announcement or a weaker set can break the cycle at any step.

What drives the box price: the cards inside

Sealed prices follow the singles. When a set's chase cards climb, opened-pack value rises and boxes get bought up; when the top cards fall, sealed follows. Watch both: the weekly Pokémon card price movers page tracks the singles, and each Set Value Sheet lists every card's market price so you can compare a box against its contents.

Know what the cards inside are worth. Each Set Value Sheet lists every card in a set with its current TCGplayer market price, rarity and the cost to complete the set, refreshed monthly ($5 to $7).

Holding sealed? Log what you paid and today's value in the Collection & Flip Tracker, which works out profit after StockX, TCGplayer or eBay fees.

FAQ

When do Pokémon ETBs go up in value?

In StockX data for 7 modern ETBs, prices typically dipped in the first two to five months after release. The big rises came together in January to May 2026 across boxes of every age, which points to a market-wide surge; several boxes then fell back over the summer.

Do Pokémon ETBs go down in price after release?

Usually at first. Journey Together's ETB went from $79 in its first month on StockX to $57 at its low; Destined Rivals and Phantasmal Flames dipped the same way.

Is it better to buy a Pokémon ETB at launch or later?

Historically, the cheapest month on StockX came a few months after launch, not at launch. This is a description of past prices, not advice; reprints and demand can change the pattern.

Method

Completed StockX sales of the standard English ETB for each set, collected by our sister data site SneakerPulse; lots, bundles and Pokémon Center editions excluded. Monthly medians shown only for months with 5+ sales. "Months since" counts from the box's first StockX sale in our data, which can fall a little before or after the official release date. Sales counts follow how many listings the feed covers and are not a demand measure.
